June 20, 2017, brought us the first official day of summer, but any real Austinite can vouch that it's felt like summer since mid-February. With all the hustle and bustle of out of town visitors and college students fleeing the city, most of us locals opt to find the simple pleasures of what our city has to offer during these scorching months, giving us the young visions of a few new Austin creatives.
Kaitlyn Drake and Kelly Ford moved to The Lonestar state with high aspirations to leave their mark on the city. After attending street market after street market they realized their favorite district, the Rainey Street District in Downtown Austin, was missing one of its own.
Rue De Rainey Market sprung onto the scene in August 2016 with the idea of providing a space for local vendors and artists to promote and sell their work in one of the cities most popular areas. The market sets up two Sundays a month from around 11 am- 5 pm and caters to all ages. From succulents to homemade jewelry, Rue De Rainey Market is definitely worth checking out.

Aside from the fabulous shopping, the market is occasionally accompanied by a food truck, as well as a live music performance brought to you by Katy Beightol, the founder of The Melting Potluck, a pop-up stage showcasing the positive impact of diversity through music and the arts.
Katy runs and operates the pop-up stage with the slogan of “sharing our differences, together.” You can catch several local artists playing 1-hour slots during the Rue De Rainey Market and around town! These 'girl-powered' friends have teamed up to bring great vibes to an already vibrant Rainey Street.
So, if you are wondering how to avoid those pre-Monday chores - come out, shop and boogie! Although the market has taken a well-needed break from the heat, they will return full force in September. See you on Rainey! :)
