Fourth of July has come and gone and if you are wondering what to do for the next few weeks we've got you covered.

Check out some events around central Austin that we've curated - most are free and all are awesome! Many of the events are happening outdoors - for those events - be sure to bring:

  • a large, soft blanket
  • comfy shoes
  • sunscreen
  • TOWERS.net sunglasses (come by our office and grab a pair!)
  • binoculars
  • and lots of water to keep you hydrated!

Blues on the Green has been an Austin tradition for over 25 years and even with the decreased summer productions, Austinites flock, and blanket Zilker Park twice a month. This week BOTG has the pleasure of hosting a native Texan, Kevin Russell, of the soul-funk band, Shinyribs. This is a show you won't want to miss. Music starts at 8:00 pm, but the party starts when you get there!

Zilker Theatre Productions is presenting The Wizard of Oz live! Every Thursday - Sunday evening until August 12th you can catch this childhood classic. The event is family friendly and starts promptly at 8:15 pm at the Zilker Hillside Theater.

Unplugged at The Grove presents Jackie Venson live at 8 pm on July 13th and every Thursday until September. This KGSR production is set under the beautiful pecan patio of Shady Grove and does not lack in the food and beverage department either. Drink specials include $4 ZiegenBock drafts and take it from us, you will want to get a burger.

Texas Lottery, Do512, and Alamo Drafthouse proudly present Austin Sound & Cinema July 19th with a free showing of Galaxy Quest accompanied by, The Octopus Project. If you can think of anything better than watching a movie in front of the downtown Austin skyline, let us know. The movie starts at sundown on the Long Center lawn, but if you want a good seat I suggest you get there early!

Are you "up for whatever"? If so, the Bud Light Summer Series is hosting its second free concert July 20th at the Austin American-Statesman. When you RSVP you not only get free admission to the concert but get to enjoy some extreme happy hour specials, courtesy of Bud Light. Tickets sold out like wildfire the first go around so don't miss out! Gates open at 5 pm and concert lasts until 11 pm. This is a 21+ event, sorry kids.

For those of you looking to get a little active Fierce Clarity and Live Large are hosting Yoga & Mimosas at Zilker Park on July 22nd from 9-11am. This will be Live Large's first community event and will include music, a photo booth, and - most importantly - mimosas following the workout.

Come out and explore the Red River Cultural District with their presentation of Hot Summer Nights! July 13 - 16th. Barracuda, Cheer Up Charlies and Stubb's Austin are three out of THIRTEEN bars participating in the weekend-long event. Each bar will feature local food, vintage arts & crafts vendors and performances by Golden Dawn Arkestra and CAPYAC to name a few. Doors open at 7:00 pm and is open to all ages. Oh, and it's free!

Dog owners have not been forgotten! Guero's Taco Bar will be hosting a Bark Happy Happy Hour Sunday, July 16th from noon - 2 pm with live music and $2 beer specials. Although this event will require purchasing a ticket, all proceeds will benefit Austin Pets Alive and each ticket holder will receive a $5 gift card to Mean Eyed Cat, $5 off a Blowout at Blo!, along with countless freebies. Early bird tickets are being sold for $12 and standard admission is $15.

With August quickly approaching and the summer excitement coming to a slow halt, most of the city is scurrying to pack every last (free) event into their schedule. The fall will bring back football and a lot more traffic - so let's enjoy a relatively serene Downtown Austin while we can.
